KEY FEATURES WHEN PURCHASING A KID’S SNOWSUIT

With winter fast approaching and colder weather around the corner, finding a good quality snowsuit that protects from harsh weather conditions moves to the top of a mom’s priority list. As a mother of 2, and the head designer of Conifere brand, I’ve compiled a list of key features to look for when purchasing a snowsuit.

A Water Resistant and Breathable Outer Shell
A water resistant or water proof outer shell is key to keeping the kiddo dry. Look for fabrics that have been treated with DWR coating that repels water while ensuring that it remains breathable. A lot of brands put their waterproof rating on the garments. Conifere snowsuits have a 5000mm Laminate. What’s that you ask? This is the unit to measure how water proof the fabric is.

Fleece Lining
In addition to providing warmth, fleece is an important comfort detail in good quality snowsuits. Conifere uses anti-pill polar fleece for the body and hood, which is not only soft and durable, but also provides excellent heat insulation. Our snow pants and jacket sleeves are sewn with 210T lining, a highly durable polyester lining.

YKK zippers
Known to be the strongest and most durable zippers, Conifere jackets are sewn with YKK zipper closures.

CorduraTech
Cordura-what? This is a tightly woven Ripstop fabric that has superior durability and resists to abrasions and tearing.

Leg Gators
This feature may be overlooked by many budget brands, but any high quality snowsuit should have these. Leg gators are found at the hem of the pants, an inner cuff extension with elastic that can cinch around the boots. With its snug fit, it acts as a barrier and keeps out the cold, wind and snow from creeping up your child’s legs.

Snow skirts
No these are not skirts made of snow! A snow skirt (or a powder skirt) is an fully elasticized band sewn onto the inside waist of the jacket, with snap closures. Found on better quality snowsuits, these prevents the winter elements from finding its way up your child’s back.

Adjustable and/or Removable anything!
With kids growing so fast, parents look to get the most mileage out of their garments. Look for adjustable straps, grow with child options at hems and elastic components that can offer not only comfort but extendibility. Find these features on our jackets & pants
-Elastic at hood viser
-Adjustable sleeve cuffs with elastic & Velcro
-Removable hood and/or removable fur trim
-Adjustable snow skirt with snaps
-Adjustable elastic suspenders on pants
-Extendable elastic waist
-Grow-with-Child adjustable leg hem with snaps & loops at 2 lengths

Hidden features
Where to find these? Look for features in strategic places to keep the cold out and add function. Some good examples from Conifere are;
-Inner storm cuffs at the sleeve hems
-Fleece lining in the hood
-Lined chin guard and placket
-Sealed zipper pockets
-Leg Gators
-Zippers at pant leg openings
-Sewn name labels inside garments
-Reflective tapes and patches.

These will differentiate a regular jacket with a higher quality brand.
And bonus! Conifere takes it up notch by having a LED light security feature sewn onto the front of every jacket. This is an excellent way to increase visibility and attract attention, whether you are skiing, skating, enjoying your favourite sport or simply walking!

Ok then, happy snowsuit hunting!

j’ai acheté l’ensemble Théo et le carton accroché sur le manteau et qui donne la description du manteau, montre une tuque et un cache-cou. Mais, il n’en avait pas avec l’ensemble que j ai reçu, est-ce normale ?
